Tenor Stefan Pop heading to Liverpool

Celebrated Romanian tenor Stefan Pop will sing in his first ever Liverpool concert next week.Pop, winner of many high-profile singing competitions including the Seoul International Music Competition and Plácido Domingo’s Operalia for young up-and-coming artists, will perform a recital in the Concert Room at St George's Hall on June 25 as part of The Liverpool Opera – Four Seasons® concert series. The series so far has included performances from Russian soprano Ekaterina Lekhina, and Chinese Met Opera baritone Yunpeng Wang.He's not yet 30, but Pop has already appeared at the world's most renowned opera houses, including Royal Opera House Covent Garden, La Scala Milan, Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro Verdi Trieste, Hamburg Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opera di Roma, Tel Aviv Opera, Zurich Opera, Bolshoi Theatre Moscow and Mikhailovsky Theatre St Petersburg.The programme at St George’s Hall will feature some of the world’s most popular tenor songs including Nessun dorma, Granada and O Sole Mio. Pop will share the stage with Liverpool-based soprano Barbara Ruzsics, a graduate of the Liszt Academy of Music and student of soprano star Eva Marton.Co-founder of the Liverpool Opera Four Seasons, Hungarian actor Gyula Mesterházy said: “Stefan Pop is widely regarded as one of the most in-demand tenors in Europe and Asia in the bel canto repertoire."Pop says he relishes the opportunity to perform solo shows as well as large-scale ensemble opera productions, and is looking forward to his first trip to Liverpool.
